About the Author

Perry Bernard is a marketing strategist, consultant and business owner with more than two decades of experience in search, digital marketing and information strategy. Through his consultancy, RankPower, he has advised organisations ranging from local businesses to international enterprises, helping them improve discoverability, search performance and digital capability.

Although his professional career developed in marketing, Perry’s long-standing interest has been understanding how knowledge is organised, interpreted and retrieved. After leaving full-time employment in 2003, he pursued formal study in linguistics for the development of artificial intelligence, focusing on the relationship between language, meaning and computational understanding. That work provided an intellectual foundation that would later influence his approach to search and retrieval long before artificial intelligence became a mainstream part of digital marketing.

Over the years, Perry became increasingly convinced that many discussions about SEO focused too heavily on tactics and too little on the underlying principles of communication, knowledge and organisational understanding. As search engines evolved into increasingly sophisticated retrieval systems, and AI began synthesising information rather than just locating documents, that conviction only strengthened.

The Knowledge Advantage is the culmination of those experiences. It brings together perspectives from linguistics, information retrieval, knowledge management and practical marketing to present a broader framework for understanding how organisations become discoverable, trusted and consistently understood.

Perry believes that the future of discoverability will be shaped less by organisations learning new optimisation techniques and more by their ability to recognise, organise and continually improve the knowledge they already possess. This book reflects that belief.
